LIYR Registration Costs: What Affects Your Yacht Quotation?
A useful LIYR registration quotation explains what is included, what is recurring and what still depends on the yacht’s records. Two owners can receive different totals because the work required is different, even when both are asking for LIYR registration support.
Separate official charges from service work
Ask for an itemised quotation. Official application charges and annual tonnage dues should be identifiable separately from agent coordination, document preparation and third-party costs. Where a figure depends on the current official schedule or a case-specific assessment, the quotation should state that basis.
The official LIYR portal reminds owners that annual tonnage dues are payable at registration and annually on or before the anniversary of registration. Include recurring obligations in your ownership budget, rather than considering only the initial application.
What may change the work involved?
- Ownership: individual and company-owned yachts require different records and may involve an entity-registration route.
- Existing flag: a previously registered yacht may need former-registry coordination and release evidence.
- Document readiness: missing, inconsistent or incomplete ownership and vessel particulars require follow-up.
- Technical information: the available tonnage, builder and survey records affect what additional work needs assessment.
- Intended operation: a proposed commercial operation should be scoped alongside its technical and operating requirements.
- Location and timing: travel, physical attendance, courier work or delivery coordination may need separate provision.
A practical quotation comparison
Compare quotations line by line. Ask whether the total includes the initial official charges, the first year’s dues, agent services and any known third-party work. Identify exclusions, validity period, assumptions and the point at which further approval is needed for additional work. If a surveyor, notary, insurer or former registry will quote separately, record that explicitly.
This article does not publish a fixed all-inclusive price: a reliable figure needs the current fee basis and the yacht’s actual documents. An advertised service price should not be confused with the complete official and third-party cost of the project.
What to send for a useful assessment
Send the yacht’s make, model, year, dimensions, available GT/NT records, location, current registry, intended owner and private or commercial use. Add ownership, builder and survey documents you already hold, together with your target handover or application date.
Request an itemised scope
Summer Marine’s LIYR service helps owners prepare the registration discussion. Request a vessel assessment and ask for the official charges, service work, recurring dues and exclusions to be shown clearly.
